Air Madagascar has reached a deal to lease 2 Airbuses (A340s) from Air France for six years. Air Madagascar will potentially be able to buy the planes at the end of the leasing period. President Andry Rajoelina has expressed with pride that this deal is a step for Madagascar to attain world-class air standards. However, the deal has drawn criticism because of a question of how much more profitable Boeings planes could be rather than Airbuses, and the possible influence of this decision by France because of the close ties between the 2 countries.
